How to use
Apply a small amount to the palm, rub hands together, then massage gently into the affected muscles and joints. For best results, use after light warming (e.g., warm shower) or after exercise to enhance absorption and comfort. Perform a skin patch test prior to first full use.
Why these essential oils?
-
Peppermint (menthol) — Peppermint’s primary active, menthol, activates cold-sensing TRPM8 channels and has been shown in randomized trials and mechanistic studies to produce topical analgesia and a cooling, pain-reducing sensation. This is why peppermint is commonly used in topical pain formulations. PMC+1
-
Eucalyptus (eucalyptol/1,8-cineole) — Eucalyptus essential oil and its main terpene (eucalyptol) show anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects in preclinical models and clinical inhalation/topical studies, supporting its traditional use for muscle and joint discomfort. PubMed+1
-
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) — Rosemary contains polyphenols (e.g., carnosic acid, carnosol) with demonstrated anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity in preclinical and mechanistic studies; topical/rub formulations containing rosemary components have been studied for inflammation and pain-related models. PMC+1
-
Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) — Clinical trials and systematic reviews indicate lavender aromatherapy and topical application can reduce pain and anxiety in a variety of settings (procedural, postoperative, obstetric) support analgesic activity in nociceptive pain models. Lavender’s calming scent also enhances relaxation during massage. PubMed+1
-
Ginger (Zingiber officinale) — Ginger’s phenolic constituents (gingerols, shogaols) inhibit pro-inflammatory pathways (COX, LOX) and have clinical evidence for reducing pain and inflammation; topical ginger preparations have been tested for wound and incision pain and for musculoskeletal complaints. PMC+1
