Why I’m Not Recommending My Aromatherapy Car Diffusers During the UK Heatwave
If you’ve bought one of my aromatherapy car diffusers (or have been thinking about it), I wanted to be completely honest with you.
As much as I love them for everyday use, the recent UK heatwave means they’re simply not performing as well as they normally do.
It's much hotter in the car than you think
Although the outside temperature might be 30°C, the temperature inside a parked car can quickly climb to 50–70°C, especially if it’s parked in direct sunlight with the windows closed.
That’s incredibly hot and unfortunately, it’s not an environment that aromatherapy car diffusers enjoy.
Essential oils are naturally volatile, which means they evaporate more quickly as temperatures rise. In extreme heat, the oil can become thinner and travel through the wooden lid much faster than it would on a normal day. This can cause the fragrance to disappear more quickly and, in some cases, lead to a small amount of leakage.
This isn’t a fault with the diffuser, it’s simply how natural ingredients behave when exposed to extreme temperatures.
My Advice
During the current heatwave, I’d recommend taking your car diffuser down while your car is parked for long periods, especially if it’s sitting in direct sunlight. Once the weather cools and temperatures return to normal, you can pop it back up and enjoy it again.
If you do leave it in your car:
- Keep it upright whenever possible.
- Check it occasionally during very hot weather.
- Wipe away any excess oil if you notice it around the wooden lid.
Why I’m sharing this
I could stay quiet and hope nobody notices, but that’s not how I run my business.
I’d much rather be honest about when one of my products isn’t at its best than pretend it’s perfect in every situation.
Aromatherapy is all about working with nature, and sometimes nature throws us a heatwave that our little car diffusers just weren’t designed for!
The good news is that this is only temporary. Once temperatures return to their usual British levels, your diffuser should be back to gently scenting your car, just as intended.
Thank you, as always, for supporting my small business and trusting me with your wellbeing. If you ever have any questions about any of my products, I’m happy to help.
Stay cool, drink plenty of water, and look after yourself this summer.
Holly x
